Letter from the President

I am very excited to start my journey as your 2011-2012 SMPS San Antonio President. In 2005, I joined SMPS San Antonio to broaden my knowledge about the A/E/C industry, build relationships and network with some of the best marketing/business development professionals in the industry. I had no idea the impact SMPS would have on my professional career and am honored to give back to an organization that has given me so much over the past six years.

This year, SMPS is all about YOU- our valued members. My hope is this year our chapter will help you reach some of your goals-  professionally and personally, or at least get the ball rolling in the right direction. Here are some questions for you to ponder, as I often do:

  • Where do you want to be a year from today?
  • Five years from today?
  • Ten years from today?
  • Are you surrounding yourself with the tools, people, events and challenges that can help you achieve your professional and personal goals?

To start, schedule 10 minutes at the beginning of each day to review your goals. Review your personal and professional values, and everyday find a way to enable yourself to reach the new place you want to be within your company, your career or your personal life and see how SMPS San Antonio can help you obtain those goals.

In August, your 2011-2012 SMPS San Antonio Board worked very diligently to plan community events, monthly lunch programs, educational programs and networking opportunities to help increase your professional skills. We have a new educational series with various topics for all levels of marketing & business development professionals.  We are bringing back the Celebrity Night Putting Tournament, in support of the UTSA SMPS Student Chapter; the Owner’s Breakfast; Member’s-Only Holiday Luncheon, benefiting the Janey Briscoe Foundation; as well as the Awards Gala.

This year, the Plaza Club raised the price of our lunches nearly $2.00 per person. I am happy to report that we will NOT be passing that cost on to our members. Thanks to our loyal sponsors, we are going to be offering minimal registration fees and more door prizes, including several registrations to our Regional Conference in January and much more.

If you are interested in becoming involved on a committee, we are always looking for motivated and enthusiastic people willing to lend a helping hand in this great professional organization. Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity for personal and professional growth while networking with your peers in the A/E/C industry.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Chapter President. I wish you great success in your professional and personal endeavors over the upcoming year!

Sincerely,

Melodye Tomsu, CPSM
